Biographical/Historical note

In 1948, before Seattle University established its offices of advancement and public relations, Father Lemieux, SJ inaugurated the Seattle University Guild and invited prominent Seattle women to assist him in promoting Seattle University to the wider Seattle civic community. During a vibrant thirty year history the Guild sponsored cultural and social events that received prominent coverage in Seattle newspapers.

Abstract

The Seattle University Guild (1948-1978), founded by A.A. Lemieux, SJ, planned and promoted cultural events on behalf of the university. The collection contains nine scrapbooks and one box of miscellaneous materials. Special events included fashion shows featuring clothing from the shop of John Doyle Bishop in Seattle and exhibits featuring jewelry art designed by Salvador Dali.
