Seattle University "Shop Talk" Series Binder, circa 2005-2015
Scope and Contents
Series 3: Seattle University contains photographs, correspondence, course materials, and audiovisual materials documenting Dr. Bob Harmon's tenure as a faculty member at Seattle University. Harmon joined the faculty of Seattle University in 1953. This series includes course materials and binders created for classes he taught in the History Department, as well as binders created for his popular "Shop Talk" lectures. (Harmon's Shop Talks were lunchtime history lectures presented to Facilities staff in their breakroom.) As with Series 2: Research Binders, the physical binders have been disassembled for preservation purposes and the contents retained in original order in archival folders. The folder titles, if presented in quotes, were derived from Harmon's original binder titles.
This series also contains documentation of various campus events and examples of student activism, especially anti-war, anti-military, and anti-ROTC activities. Also included are two manuscripts documenting the experiences of faculty members who served in the military during World War II and fought in Europe and the Pacific. Cassette tapes and CDs of oral history interviews with some of these faculty members are preserved alongside the manuscripts, as is a VHS tape of a lecture by Harmon recalling his experiences during the war.
